Knowing What We Know The White House has now now admitted that the claim that Iraq was trying to buy uranium in Niger was bogus: "Knowing all that we know now, the reference to Iraq's attempt to acquire uranium from Africa should not have been included in the State of the Union speech," a senior Bush administration official said last night in a statement authorized by the White House. The administration's statement capped months of turmoil over the uranium episode during which senior officials have been forced to defend the president's remarks in the face of growing reports that they were based on faulty intelligence. But what we now know is what the White House has known for a long time now. Here's Ari Fleischer on the NYT article that made public details on the inquiry into the forged Niger documents previously known only to government officials:
