Night Valerie

Tonight's Nightline was entirely about the Valerie Plame story. I counted at least 3 fairly interesting new developments.

• Former CIA senior agent Vince Cannistrano confirmed Plame's status as a covert agent. "She was under corporate cover and a non-governmental affiliation, and she was stationed abroad. [That] meant that she was a clandestine case officer, she was controlling agents, amd while she is in the United States now, and presumably at much lesser risk, some of the people she dealt with, the agents, the sources, the contacts she had, could, because of her identity being revealed, themselves be put at personal risk."
• Koppel interviewed Joe Wilson and ran by him the story that has been circulating recently that Plame was an analyst, who had been involved in covert ops in the past but no longer was. Wilson clearly rejected that, advising Koppel to 'check your sources'.
• Wildon also stated on the record, I believe for the first time, that Novak's original story - that Plame was responsible for his being chosen for the assignment - was untrue.
